I have a partially impacted wisdom tooth that has been bothering me for about 3 days. I tried to see a dentist or doctor today, but I am in a rural town so I had no luck. The pain and swelling is very bad and I have been treating with Advil and Tylenol, but still feel pain. I have access to 500mg amoxicillin. Given the circumstances and no way to see a doctor until Monday, should I take some amoxicillin?
Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query. The The pain and swelling could be because of the gum infection over the wisdom tooth (pericoronal infection leading to space infection). Consult a oral physician and get a radiograph done to rule the amount of space present for the tooth to erupt if space is there for the tooth to erupt then the gum covering over the wisdom tooth can be removed. If the space is not available then you have to get the wisdom tooth removed. Mean while till you consult your dentist you can take a course of antibiotics like metronidazole along with amoxicillin(if you are not allergic). For the pain you can continue tylenol. Do saline gargling, Do not apply pressure over the swelling by touching it.
I hope my answer will help you, take care.
