Is Augmentin Safe To Take After Having Immunotherapy?
Hi doctor, I m allergic to penicilins and now my doctor gave me augmentin 1g x2 a day... I had an immunothreapy and my allergie doctor told me that i could only have zinnat in case of antibiotics use... I told my doctor that i m only allowed to use zinnat, but he insistedon augmentin... Now what to do? Thank you for your help
Augmentin is a form of penicillin. If you are allergic to penicillin, you should not take it. This depends on the type of reaction you have to penicillin. Many times people say they have an allergy when they actually have side effects. If you get a rash, hives, swelling, breathing difficulties or anaphylaxis from penicillin, then this is an allergic reaction and you absolutely should not take Augmentin. If the reaction you get is more like nausea or diarrhea, then you might have similar side effects from the Augmentin, but it would probably be okay to take. Discuss this further with your doctor. If the immunotherapy was to reduce your reaction to penicillin, I would still be concerned about taking the Augmentin if your allergist suggested only Zinnat, and suggest that your allergist talk to your doctor about the Augmentin before you take it. Hope this helps.
