Is Bupropion XL 300mg The Right Medicine For Anxiety Disorder?
My Doctor prescribed Wellbutrin 10Mg 1tab daily in the a.m. for anxiety. When I picked up my prescription from the pharmacy, I received Bupropion XL 150 mg tab... 1 daily in a.m for 4 days then increase to 300 mg tab. Is the Wellbutrin 10mg the same as the Bupropion XL 300mg ? Or should I consult my Doctor prior to taking either of the Wellbutrin medications.? Virginia

Thank you very much for your question. Wellbutrin or Bupropion is used to treat major depression,seasonal affective disorder and for smoking cessation.
When you are taking Bupropion the maximum single dose is 150 mg and each dose should be taken after 6 hour interval. For depression, you can take 100 mg 3 times daily ( 300mg) and maximum daily dose is 450 mg. In your case the dosage would be 300mg daily not 10mg. However, I never recommend you to take these medications over the counter without a doctor's prescription and proper consultation because most drugs which are used to treat depression or anxiety disorder can have severe side effects. Also when you are taking these drugs, you have to be careful if you are on other medications to treat another disease. Most antidepressants can interact with other medications and can cause even sudden death.
Therefore, I always recommend you to consult your psychiatrist to determine for you the appropriate dosage needed to treat your anxiety. So my answer is consult your psychiatrist prior to take either dosage of the same medication. He is the right person to consult in your case.If you have any questions, please let me know.
