Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a friend along with her husband that is travelling to Tennessee getting back to Texas. Her husband has been treated for swelling hand and is diagnosed cellulitis. He s in such great pain. Shouldn t he be hospitalized? He s currently taking Cipro for it.
Cellulitis is caused due to a bacterial infection caused commonly when the bacteria enters the skin through cuts, surgical sites, lacerations, areas of insect bites etc.
Ciprofloxacin is an appropriate antibiotic for the same and he should continue with it.
In case if there is the pain he can take stronger painkillers like Ultracet [Tramadol] and even go for a painkiller injection. He can also alternate with anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen to help reducing inflammation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora,
Dentist
