I am 53 soon to be 54 female. My GP has been checking my ESR level since I was 52 and the range is always between 59 to 60. I am into menopause and has had a hysterectomy when In was 44. DId tests for diabetes, lupus and rheumatoid arthritris and all were negative. Can you give any advice on this? What should be my next step. Thanks. ANN
ESR is a very non specific test which when elevated indicates chronic inflammation in the body which can be of from various causes. You have rule out major causes by testing your blood from them. In my opinion a single value elevation of ESR may not be significant. I would advise for a serial test of ESR at regular intervals to assess it significance in the clinic context.
