Is Gabapentin The Right Medicine For Laryngeal Neuropathy?

I have been diagnosed with laryngeal neuropathy which results in frequent coughing that is very disruptive to my day. I currently take a low dose of tramadol 2x day as well as Zyrtec D and regular Zrtec. This regimen provides some relief but no complete. My doctor has said the next step would be to try an anti-seizure med such as gabapentin, but I am concerned about its side effects (I really do not like taking medicine at all). What are your thoughts?

Allergist and Immunologist 's  Response
Hi,

I think your doctor will start with a low dose of Gabapentin, 100 mg three times a day and depending on side effects and the response he will go as high as 600 mg three times a day. Some people have side effects even at 300 mg per day. Other people don’t have side effects until they get a higher dosage.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
