Is Glycomet An Alternative Medicine For Galvus Met?
Hello Doctor, I was diagnosed as diabetic 4 years back. I was prescribed Gavusmet 50/ 500, twice daily which keeps the sugar level in control (Fasting: 90-110 & PP: 120-140), but with proper dieting & exercise. If there is a lapse in either proper dieting or regular exercise, the sugar levels increase ( Fasting: around 130 & PP: 200). Can I switch to Gycomet 500 instead of Galvusmet 50/500, with the same effectiveness ? Thanks, SKT

the best answer to your question is that it depends on your glucosylated hemoglobin level. If it's less than 6.5% then you can probably do well with glycomet alone. The effectiveness won't be the same and your blood sugars are expected to be somewhat elevated.
If your glucosylated hemoglobin is higher than 6.5% then you should avoid switching to glycomet.
Keep in mind that your current regimen contains both vildagliptin and metformin while glycomet contains metformin alone. Each drug may contribute to a 0.5-1.0% lowering in glucosylated hemoglobin. Therefore stopping one of them for any reason requires a low enough level of glucosylated hemoglobin (6.5% or less) for the blood sugar to remain within the target limits.
