Sir, I got tested from Dr Lal Path Labs in India for HIV infection after 41 days of possible risk exposure.(I had sex with a sex worker with condom . I was sitting and she was on top and it kept going of for some time even after ejaculation)The test they conducted was HIV 1 & 2 ANTIBODIES, SCREENING TESTIncludes p24 Antigen The test result is negative. Could you let me know if the test is conclusive at 41 days.
Hello I am writing in detail about the tests and p24 antigen , so you can understand in better way. Weatern blot ( ELISA or EIA ) is the most commonly used confirmatory test and detects antibodies to HIV antigens of specific molecular weights. Antibodies to HIV begin to appear within 2 weeks of infection , and the period of time between initial infection and the development of detectable antibodies if RARELY > 3 months. The HIV p24 antigen can be measured using an EIA-type capture assay. Plasma p 24 antigen levels rise during the first FEW weeks following infection, prior to the appearance of anti-HIV antibodies. Now after reading above mentioned , perhaps you understand that after 41 days test is CONCLUSIVE & specific . Hope this will help you.
