Is Hydrocortisone Cream The Right Medicine For External Hemorrhoids?
I went to the doctor last Friday with an external hemmorhoid that was the size of a small grape and was hard and sore. Gave me hydrocortisone cream. I have been cleaning with witch hazel and using the cream. It s not really painful. It seems to be a tiny bit smaller however now it has a dark spot on it. Tomorrow is officially a week. What should I do?
yes, your doctor is right with his prescription. it is one of those medications to reduce inflammation in general. as you can see, the swelling is decreasing and it is not painful anymore. the dark spot you observe is probably a hematoma previously that is resolving. in cases of hemorrhoids, it is best if you have a consultation or regular follow-up with your doctor, preferably a general surgeon, for clinical evaluation. if there's occurrence of active bleeding, swelling or thrombosis and persistent pain, a consultation should be done as this may indicate surgical management already. be on a high fiber diet, so you will not have difficulty in bowel movement.
hope this helps.
good day!!
