Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is 6 months old now. I have started with mashed foods like carrots, apples, vegetables and cerelac. The doctor also asked us to start with lactogen. But he does not drink lactogen at all. Is it really necessary that he takes lactogen? If yes is there an alternative?
Weaning with semi solids is recommended from 6 months of age. You can give mashed rice boiled along with pulses and the vegetables that you mentioned. Basically it is a transition to adult food and practically any adult food low on spices can be introduced gradually but in the mashed form. Lactogen or milk is an accessory and may not be given if other nutritive principles are included. If the child is not taking lactogen, it is not a cause of concern and you need not worry and there is no need to look for alternatives.
