Is Levetiracetam Safe For The Treatment Of Epilepsy?

Given a Rx for levetiracetam; some symptoms indicating an epilepsy seizure (of short duration, returning to normal operation). The guide with med is scary. The med seems possibly worse than the condition. Deliberating whether to begin. What do you think?

Levetiracetam is one of the most commonly used drugs for epilepsy treatment. All epilepsy drugs have a potential for side effects (almost all drugs in general for that matter), the list of side effects refers to potential ones though, doesn't mean it will happen. In terms of how does it compare with other epilepsy medication levetiracetam is one of the safest ones with most patients tolerating it well. So if the diagnosis of epilepsy is correct (hard for me to judge on that without all info and EEG reports) I think you should take it as the risk from seizures is higher than that of possible side effects.

All antiepileptic drugs have one or other side effects. The side effects vary in incidence and amount. Levetiracetam may cause behavior problems and decrease in concentration. Overall it is a good drug with high safety profile.
