Is Lovenox The Right Medicine For Blood Clots In The Knee?
I am being treated for blood clots in my knee and calf since Friday. I am taking Lovenox and coumidin. Did the lovenox immediately begin dissolving the clots and if so how long before they are gone. I expect to stop lovenox on Friday once mu INR gets to the desired concentration??????
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.
Lovenox is one of the most used drugs for blood clots. Actually both Lovenox and Coumadin have the same effect. Lovenox effect begins immediately but being injectable can't be used for months in a row. Coumadin on the other hand can be taken by mouth but its effect needs some days to take place and that is measured through a tests called INR (must be 2-3, if lower than 2 means isn't thinning blood enough and dose must be raised, if over three the opposite).
So what is done is start with both drugs in order for Lovenox to protect you rightaway and once Coumadin comes into action with the desired INR then Lovenox is not necessary anymore as Coumadin does the job and can be interrupted.
I hope to have been of help.
