Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have fibromyalgia, AKS and a type 2 Diabetic. My sister passed away from Rhumetoid Arthritis and Type 2 Diabetes 10 years ago this October. Plus, all women in my family are HLB27 positive. I have been prescribed Valium .05 for many years in lieu of Xanax which I was also prescribed many years ago. I was told that Lyrica is basically the same as Valium, is this true?
Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Lyrica and Valium are not the same medication. Lyrica or Pregabalin is an anticonvulsant that reduces the number of pain signals from damaged nerves. Valium instead is used to treat anxiety disorders.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
