Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son about 10 years is having fever from two days and I am using cal poly 500mg for every six hours but the temperature doesn t comes to normal and my doctor advices to use meftal -p of 200mg dose . If we using meftal temperature is coming to normal but with calpol it is not decreasing because of that my doubt is can I use only meftal & is it safe for him. His weight is 48.
Hi & Welcome. I appreciate your concern for your beloved son who is suffering from fever.
Calpol (Paracetamol) is the safest drug to reduce the raised body temperature in young children.
However, if fever does not subside even after taking Calpol, then Meftal-P can be given to the young children along with Calpol.
Meftal P contains mefenamic acid which can be given at 4 to 6.5 mg/kg per dose (maximum 25 mg/kg/day).
Along with the medications tepid sponging should be done to lower the raised body temperature, plenty of oral fluids, juices, etc should be given to him and the cause of fever should be diagnosed by his treating doctor and a course of suitable antibiotic should be given.
Hope to have answered your query.
