Hello,My mother(81 years old) was taking Ulracet from india for her severe back pain(disc herniation L4 and L5).. for last 7 years ,now I had to stop that medicine as its controlled drug medicine and not easily available where i live....She is also taking Pregabalin 150 mg daily for burning soles of the feet problem. Can you suggest any alternate non control medicine which i can buy easily over the counter. Are NSAID safe to be given as long term treatment?
Hello, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and understand your concern.
Ultracet is made of paracetamol and Tramadol.
Tramadol is a narcotic pain med so it is impossible to be purchased without prescription.Over-the-counter painkillers include mild analgesics like acetaminophen to more potent analgesic agents like ibuprofen or Naproxen and similar drugs that provide long-term relief.
However, most of these are not effective for long-term use. They can give gastritis or ulcer.
Hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
