I recently purchased a Neti Pot that comes with the packets of sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate and have been using it often.. but now I read in a magazine that adding one or two drops of rosemary oil to the mixture will help alleviate sinus infections. What do you think about this?
Hi. Thank for your query. This is a good question. We have found that none of the patients using neti-pot has got a cure for sinus infection. Yes, it can clean the nose the best and this is the best instrument for the patients who have atrophic rhinitis with scab formation. Nose is not meant to be flushed with water or any chemical for that matter as thisis a self-cleaning organ.
Hence I would advise you the following: First of all, get a CT scan of hte sinuses and the nose. Get an opinion of an ENT Surgeon, clinical evaluation and investigations to first diagnose the exact problem you have, then only a proper treatment is possible, otherwise you are using something that may not be necessary or can be harmful if you turn out to be a diabetic or so.
There is no role of Neti-pot unless proved otherwise of putting something like rosemary oil or something that you have just overheard.
