Is Omeprazole Safe To Take For Digestive Issues?

Hi(: I M afraid to take Omeprazole. Heard bad things about proton pump inhibitors. My Mother was taking Nexium for some time & developed Kidney Disease for some reason. She was very healthy otherwise & was 90 years old. She passed away this past February from kidney disease. My family & I are still very puzzled about why she developed this when she was so healthy all of her life.

Noted the history about your 90 year old Mother and understood the concerns.
PPI like Nexium or Omeprazole can not cause disney disease, it must be some other cause like infection, diabetes, hypertension and so on.

Since your Mother is no more it will be difficult to know the exact cause hence I would advise you the following.
Nexium and other PPIs are safer medicines and do not cause any dreaded disease or disorder.
Get all the family members basic investigations to know whether anyone is suffering from hypertension or diabetes and get treated properly to avoid any complications.
Proper diet and exercises keep one healthy hence all family members should start on proper regimen.
