Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just have started taking Pletal, and the instructions are 1/2 hour before food or 2 hours after food. I wondering how specific must I be on the after 2 hour instruction. Is coffee considered food, i.e. coffee after breakfast? I take omeprazole 1/2 hour before breakfast and have been told not to take pletal with omeprazole at the same time.
Hi , welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have read your question and here is my advice. In fact the drug should be taken half hour before or 2 hours after food, this mean the the food should be taken on empty stomach ,so that it is absorbed well as food decreases its absorption. The best is you avoid coffee as well but nor necessarily . Omeprazole is enzyme inhibitor and when it is used , the dose of the pletal should be reduced . Discus this all with your doctor. Hopes i have answered your question .I would be happy to answer any further question if you have.
