Is Pregabalin The Right Medication For Anxiety?

Hi my wife has been prescribed pregabalin ( 150mg per day) to help with anxiety. It also says that one of the side effects can be to have suicidal even though my wife has told the doctor that she has had these thoughts in the past , is this normal medication for the doctor to prescribe having this information ?
