Is Prozac Or Celexa More Effective To Manage Severe Stomach Ache And Nausea?

Hi! My daughter just started taking 5 mg of lexapro this evening. She’s experiencing terrible stomach pains and nausea. I see it’s a symptom, so I’m wondering if Prozac or Celexa would be a better option? Or do they all have similar ingredients? What’s the cause of the stomach upset? She’s battling with some mild depression and anxiety so this was a big step for her to take something. Thanks for your help.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Prozoc contain Fluoxetine or Celexa contain Escitalopram both are selective serotonin re uptake inhibitors. So don't use both same time, use only one SSRI, avoid spicy food and alcohol avoid smoking and caffeine drinks.

Do yoga and meditation daily.

Check for organic causes for pain like ulcer disease or GERD or irritable bowel syndrome etc.

Also check for psychosomatic causes. Please consult your physician/psychiatrist they will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care.
