Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i was on 5 mg of ramiprill for 6 years. BP always 120/80. Suddenly, BP rose to 150/110. My doctor put me on 10 mg a day; 5mg in the morning and 5 at night. After a week of this regimen, my bp has been lowered to 140/95, still high. Do you think it will eventually lower my bp to the desired level. PS i am otherwise healthy but am i just being impatient?
Hello welcome to HCM. I have read your question and understand your concerns. Ramipril is a wonderful tablet for blood pressure and it can effectively control the blood pressure. It takes 3 to 4 days to take full effect actually. Only side effect is persistent dry cough.
Target blood pressure control should be less than 140/90 mmhg to avoid Longterm complications. So at present your blood pressure seems under control, only diastolic blood pressure is slightly high.
So, my advice to you is -
Daily monitor your blood pressure 3 times a day for 10 days and show the chart to your doctor. Don't rely on single measurements.
If necessary other drug like amlodipine can be added to control blood pressure which will effectively control the blood pressure. At present it's not necessary to change anything. Just wait and watch and don't get panic.
