Welcome to HCM!
I appreciate your concern towards the oral
submucous fibrosis (SMF).
Brief answer: Not effective.
Detailed answer:
Oral SMF is a chronic debilitating disease of the oral cavity characterized by inflammation and progressive fibrosis of the submucosal tissues.
If left untreated it may cause cancer.
It is due to chewing paan, gukha, paan masaala, paan parag, mawa, & mainpuri tobacco (which contain highly irritant substance areca) in various parts of our country.
Biopsy is recommended to diagnose and detect any change that may cause malignancy.
This condition is treated by
Steroids: In patients with moderate oral submucous fibrosis, weekly submucosal intralesional injections or topical application of steroids may help prevent further damage.
Hyaluronidase: The use of topical hyaluronidase has been shown to improve symptoms more quickly than steroids alone. The combination of steroids and topical hyaluronidase shows better efficacy.
You are advised to
consult a dentist for further evaluation and treatment.
Avoid eating the above mentioned harmful products.
Take care.
