Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i was recently prescribed Sertraline for depression. The same doctor prescribed Zoloft for PTSD some years ago. I only took a few and never had the prescription filled. My doctor is a regular doctor and I have never been evaluated for PTSD. I did inform him I was depressed and have been, probably, for some years now. Under a lot of stress. What should I do? Welcome to HCM We understand your concerns I went through your details. Sertraline is used to treat depression, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder (social phobia), and a severe form of premenstrual syndrome. You need to be evaluated for your psychological disorder wither online or in person for prescribing medicines or treatment. Sertraline is SSRI group of antidepressant medication and recommended for both depression as well as PTSD in addition to few other disorders. I do not think your doctor have prescribed the sertraline wrongly.
There is good rationale for prescription of same medication for two different but related disorders. There is good possibility that you will respond to sertraline as there is history of good response with sertraline for PTSD.
I hope this helps you. Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions. Thanks again.
