Is Silver Nitrate Used In A Pap Smear Test?

After a pap smear yesterday, my doctor saw that I was bleeding. She said that she would stop it. I had light spotting until today (the next day) and then started seeing small silver colored flakes in my discharge. Is this normal? Could she have used silver nitrate and just not have told me?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Silver nitrate is not used in PAP smear. The flakes can be due to mild infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
