Is Tramadol Classified As A Narcotic?

is tramadol classified as a narcotic? can it be called in to pharmacy? is it habit forming? can you clarify narcotic vs non narcotic? why do narcotics cause nausea? what pain mediction do you find has the fewest side effects...in particular for post op TKA and or THA patients. One of the biggest issues that patients have following their procedure is pain medication intolerance which is usually not found out until AFTER their return home.

Hi.

Too many questions in one query; tramadol is classified as a narcotic because it is powerful and is used to treat moderate-severe pain, which is self-explanatory as to why it is considered strong. It is also habit-forming and can lead to dependance.

Non-narcotics are mostly non-habit forming, and do not carry any major side effects that can even result in fatalities.

Narcotics effect the pain centres in the brain, making the pain more tolerable or even causing sedation to distract the pain stimuli. This can also trigger other centres in the brain, one of them being nausea.
