Is Valparin 200 Along With Silybon Suspension And Cognicare Suspension Effective For Autism?

Valparin 200 has been recommended by doctor along with silybon suspension, also cognicare suspension recommended by the doctor, As my 2.5 year old son had fix when the fever exceeds 103, post an EEG test we have seen abnormality. Doctor said he has autism(ADC) as he doesn t respond to us, also speech is also delayed, hence we have put him in occupational therapy and speech therapy. I feel so much empathy for you. Autism is a disease is search of a cure. There are many promising treatments but no one answer as of yet.

You son is currently being treated with an anti-seizure drug (Valparin),Silybon which is a form of milk thistle-an herb to heal the liver, Cognicare, a mixture of expensive nutrients of no concern in your son's case and no evidence that it helps in the least bit. Cognicare has Tyrosine in it ( a precursor to phenylalanine), glutamine, huperzine, and phosphadidyl serine, vinpocetine, B12 (an excess can cause nerve damage), B6. This is an adult supplement not meant for children. Did he ask you to sign that you were consenting to a research project? There is no evidence that any of this has ever been used in anyone with your son's condition.

The best thing for you to do (after you seek a second opinion) is to get in touch with the National Autism Association. They can lead you in the correct direction, otherwise you may end up feeling like you are caught in a jungle of theories with no strong evidence that any of them work.

Intervention can involve behavioral treatments, medicines or both. Many persons with autism have additional medical conditions such as sleep disturbance, seizures and gastrointestinal (GI) distress. Addressing these conditions can improve attention, learning and related behaviors. And, after seeing your doctor's TREATMENT, I don't trust the diagnosis either. So, in order to get the right treatment, first get the correct diagnosis.

Good luck with everything. Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
