Is Vitamin B-12 500 Mg Efficient In Improving Energy Levels?
hi i decided to try vit b-12 to help raise my energy level, while at the store i saw there was a varity of mgs to choose from, 500mg-5000mg i thought id e start at the lowest dose. what should i expect from the 500mg that i won t get from the higher doses?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Let me start with this: excess amounts of vitamin B12 do not provide any additional benefit than adequate amounts of it. If your B12 levels are moderate-normal or high-normal then you definitely do not need supplementation. If your B12 levels are low-normal or below the normal range then B12 deficiency is likely but not certain.
If you've done the necessary tests and have documented deficiency then be warned that pills containing less than 1mg of vitamin B12 (1000micrograms) cannot be absorbed adequately. If you have to take B12 by mouth then any pill that contains 1mg will do. Less than that would probably be inefficient, more than that won't be necessary. If you don't have B12 deficiency then no benefit is expected from supplementation!
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
