Is A 16% Discordance In Size Of Twins A Cause For Concern?
I had my anatomy scan at 18w5d by a perinatologist because I am considered high risk due to my age (39) and that I am pregnant with twin boys. The physician wasn t very interactive and, although she didn t seem concerned, she did say that twin A was weighing in at 9ozs and twin B was 10ozs with a 16% difference in their overall size. She said that they don t get concerned until there is a 20% discordance. Are those weights appropriate for my gestation? I know my gestation as I became pregnant via IUI. Is a 16% discordance in size something I should be worried about? My next anatomy scan is in 4 weeks.
hi,some degree of discordance is normal between twins.16% is not a matter of concern.when the discordance is 20% or greater it needs to be further evaluated to rule out twin to twin transfusion syndrome.but in your case it is highly unlikely.moreover the weight gain of the fetuses will become more rampat after 24 weeks so you need not worry as their weight is apt for this gestational age.all the best eat healthy and take care.
