Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 34yrs old, 5 8 , 196lbs. I went for a physical today on the campus of a junior college I am attending and was told that my blood pressure is 143/71. Is this high enough that I should see my Dr.? I have recently started a healthy diet plan (fruits, veggies, lean meats, whole grains) and running three days a week 2-3miles each day. Will this help bring it down without needing medications?
I have gone through your medical concerns carefully and understood your concerns.
Before running into final conclusions, I need to know if the bp was measured after you did the physical activity or before?
The actual diet plan you are following and running three days a week is also an excellent choice to keep your bp within normal range.
You can continue with such changes for 3 months and see if any improvement.
If I was your caring doctor would advise to: - monitor your bp for a week and record the results for further evaluation - measure your cholesterol levels - run diabetes testing - kidney function testing - urine analysis
Hope it was of help! Dr.Albana
