Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Protected vaginal sex is protective against STD's like gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV but it does not offer complete protection against Syphilis.
Treponema pallidum, the causative organism of syphilis is the only microbe which is capable of penetrating Intact skin.
Moreover, protected vaginal sex is not 100% protective against Viral Warts, Genital Herpes, Molluscum contagiosum.
Incubation period of syphilis is on average 21 days (range 9-90 days). VDRl becomes positive a week after clinical symptoms of syphilis.
Therefore, in my view a negative VDRL just 10 days post sexual contact is too early.
I suggest repeat VDRL testing at 1 month and at 3 months for a conclusive result.
Moreover if you notice any ulcer, warts or growths in the genital area you must get yourself checked with a venereologist.

Regards
