Is A Blood Sugar Level Of 145 In A Child Worrisome?
My 19month old daughter went for a check up today for smelly breath and while testing her blood my wife saw that her sugar level was 145. This was right after she had lunch which was not much but some carrots, rice and corn. I know corn might be the culprit here but my wife is getting hysterical and crying thinking the worst. I have type 2 diabetes and that is because of my obesity. She was a pre mature baby and was born 2 months early and my wife has completely breast fed her for 12 months. Please tell us if this in anyway abnormal so we can prepare ourselves better before we take her back to the doctor next week. Thank, Jigar Patel
Diabetes is diagnosed based on fasting blood sugars, 2 hour post meal readings and HbA1c levels.
If the 2 hour post meal is greater than 200 mg/dl then the person is a diabetic. Your daughter's reading is below this and it was taken soon after eating , so far before the 2 hour mark. Her meal was also all carbs, no protein- carrots, rice and corn and they did not cause an abnormal reading.
Based on this reading, she is not diabetic
I hope this helps
