Is A Brain Bleed Possible After Taking Two Heavy Punches To The Head In A Kickboxing Match While Having A Headache And Temporary Vision Issues?

Hi, I took part in an organised kickboxing match today and I took 2 fairly heavy punches to the head. I was not knocked out or knocked down. I finished the fight and started with a headache almost straight away. Around 3 hours after the fight I had some issues with my vision for around 20 minutes. It s now been almost 5 hours since I had the vision issues and have not had any since. I still have a mild headache but no other symptoms. I suffer with health anxiety and I m Terrified I may have a bleed on the brain. I know this is very unlikely but I still need to ask what the chances are.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is understandable to be concerned about any trauma. The signs and symptoms of a concussion can vary from one person to the next and normally occur soon after the trauma. Signs and symptoms include headaches, dizziness, vision problem, seizure, nausea, fatigue , loss of consciousness, ringing in the ears.

The fact that you did not lose consciousness and the blurred vision has improved is good. It is unlikely that there is a bleed but if the symptoms recur or worsen or additional symptoms occur, then you should be assessed as soon as possible.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson, General & Family Physician
