Is A Feeling Tube Advisable After A Failed Attempt To Remove An Esophagal Growth?

Hi my dad is 73yrs. old he has a growth in his esophagus, that growth has caused him to lose hearing in his right ear. The doctors have gone in and used a balloon to stretch the esophagus. Two days ago they tried to do this procedure again. My dad cannot keep anything down. This procedure was unsuccessful, is the next step a feeding tube?

Hello,

Yes, feeding tube insertion should be the next step. Your father is not responding to balloon dilatation. So palliative treatment is a must for his esophageal growth. So for food intake, we need to insert the tube. A feeding tube can be inserted through the nose or through the abdomen (feeding jejunostomy). To discuss these options with his doctor and proceed accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
