Is A Honeycomb Shape Swollen Pattern On The Tonsils Because Of Tonsillitis Or A Different Illness?
Hi. I have had a sore throat on and off for a couple of months now. Last week I took a course of augmentin duo antibiotics I had at home but felt no better. Yesterday I used a torch to have a look at my throat and both tonsils have like a honeycomb shape swollen pattern on them? Looks like a white outline with clear blisters or lumps on both tonsils? It’s sore and hard to swallow. I’m wondering could this be just tonsillitis or something else? I do have a phone consultation booked with a GP today but looking for advice
You can observe honeycomb shaped swollen pattern on the tonsils. It is indicative of tonsil stones. Tonsil stones are located within the tonsils and are hard white or yellow formations. Tonsil stones can cause white outline, bad breath, a sore throat, and even trouble swallowing. It is commonly caused due to poor oral hygiene. Particles of food, dead cells, fungi or bacteria cause it.
Get clinically examined by an ENT. Depending on the severity of the symptoms, the ENT will recommend removal by surgery or Laser Tonsil Cryptolysis (LTC), whatever is best for you. In the meantime, maintain good oral hygiene, Do mouthwash and gargling with salt water 3-4 times a day.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
