Is A Red Lump On The Back Of The Throat A Concern?
I have this red swollen lump in the back left side of my throat. I have no tonsils or adenoids. At first my left lymph node was swollen and painful, I had a sore throat that peaked on the 3rd day, it felt like a sore- it stung when I ate and drank like it would if you got salt or alcohol on a cut. The swelling and stinging has improved somewhat but I still have a sore throat just right where the lump is and this is day 7. I haven t had a fever or any other symptoms. My 2 year old was diagnosed with hand foot mouth disease but looking at pictures online mine doesn t look the same and I ve had no rash or any other lumps or sores. It is just red and swollen, I don t see any white on or around it and it doesn t seem to be draining anything. What could this be?

Is A Red Lump On The Back Of The Throat A Concern?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Where is the exact location of lump? I think you may be suffering from acute pharyngitis. Lump may be due to tonsillitis or edematous mucosa on posterior pharyngeal wall or abscess at posterior pharyngeal wall etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Avoid cool drinks and frozen water, water vapor inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly. Take care.
