Is A Surgery Needed For The External Belly Button?

I am a male in my 40 s. From the time I was born until the age of 16, I had an outie belly button. At 16, I had surgery (not sure what it was called), but an incision was made around the naval. After the surgery, my belly button looked pretty normal; however, the older and heavier (5 10 117 lbs) I ve gotten over the years, my belly button has gone back to looking more like an outie again. I am now back to being embarrassed over having an outie (and having people comment and joke about it). What can I do to correct this? Surgery? (If so, how much does it cost and who do you recommend? If I lose weight, will that restore my naval?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It could be an umbilical hernia. Surgery is the only option possible. Consult a general surgeon and get evaluated. You can opt for laparoscopic repair as it has got best results.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
