Is Abrasion On Penis Common Due To Intercourse?

I had sex with a woman about a week ago and wore a condom for part of the time. I now have a reddish, non-open mark on the tip of my penis. I have gone to a doctor who said it is not herpes but is an abrasion. I have never heard of this before. Is this common?
