Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Today my 10 year old daughter had a heart rate of 240. My wife took her to the children s hospital where they eventually medicated her to get her heart back into a normal rhythm. I have atrial fibrillation, which I have been on medication for thirty years. My question, is it possible that atrial fibrillation is hereditary? if not, what may have caused this incident?
Hello Since , you are also having ATRIAL FIBRILLATION for last 30 years and taking treatment for it. Now your 10 years old daughter also developed increase in heart rate ( 240 / minute). This is very natural for you to know , whether this is hereditary or not . In brief I want to tell you that these are few possible disease which are responsible for causing atrial fibrillation , these are : Rheumatic heart disease Atheroscleotic coronary artery disease Thyrotoxicosis Digitalis toxicity Mitral valve prolapse Pulmonary embolism. HEREDITARY ( FAMILIAL AUTOSOMAL DOMINANT ) , in my opinion unfortunately this gene which was present in you also transferred to your daughter and she developed atrial fibrillation , if other causes are not present ( diseases ). Sick sinus syndrome Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Ideopathic in healthy person. I mentioned all the names of disease (however, in detail ) so that you can understand whole things about the possibilities which are responsible for ATRIAL FIBRILLATION for your daughter. Good luck . Consult a CARDIOLOGIST and get his opinion.
