Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Betnovate is not used for acne. It is a potent steroid and although using it over acne might notice a slight improvement like swelling and size but that is because of the anti-inflammatory property of steroid. It would cause more acne in the long run.
I would strongly advice against using it. Apart from causing acne, steroids can cause other side effects like
photosensitivity, hirsutism, skin thinning, and redness/
telangiectasia.
Treatment of acne mainly revolves around topical antibacterials (Clindamycin gel or
Nadifloxacin gel),
benzoyl peroxide, and topical retinoids (Adapalene or Tretinoin). Topical retinoids are anti-inflammatory as well as comedolytic, therefore, also prevent new acne formation.
For inflammatory acne (papules and pustules), I advise my patients to start with one of the
oral antibiotics either azithromycin/doxycycline or minocycline.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
