Is Black Discharge During Pregnancy Cause For Concern?

Hi, my wife is 5 weeks pregnant. Last night we tried to have sex but only to find out that she started bleeding as soon as insertion. We called our doc and he advised to get a USG done today morning. After the USG after we returned home, she experienced black discharge like thick clotted blood. Is it serious?

hi,yes any kind of bleeding in early fresh(bright red) or clotted is a matter of concern.this condition is called threatened abortion.such patients are at increased risk of miscarriage.you need to take extra precautions.no lifting weight and no intercourse.start taking tab susten 200 mg twice daily and inj proluton depot 500 unit once weekly till 18 weeks.these two drugs will provide additional support to the pregnancy and reduce the risk of miscarriage.take care and all the best.
