Is Black Stools, Dizziness And Sweaty While Having Alzheimers Serious?
My Grandfather in-law has black loose stools and is dizzy, sweating, no appetite, etc. Does he need to go to the hospital? He is 73 years old, has alzheimers and also just had a ortho trauma and had surgery on his foot. He has been taking asprin along with other medications.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Since there is history of taking Aspirin, it can cause severe gastritis and Gastrointestinal bleeding. Internal bleeding in turn can cause shock and thus causing dizziness and sweating. Irrespective of Alzheimers, he need to be taken to ER urgently for urgent investigations of blood and stool, upper GI Endoscopy, replacement of blood if required and any additional management as needed. Aspiring should be stopped and he will be kelp on PPI , antacid and supportive management. Also get the Ortho trauma and surgery reevaluated and further management to be done as needed.
