Is Calcium Channel Or Angiotensin Blocker Advisable Instead Of Diovan Or Losartan?
Hi - I ve been on an assortment of blood pressure lowering medication for over 20 years; cozaar, diovan, losartan. Amlodipine bysylate. I m currently using amlodipine 2.5 mg.and have been for about two years. I ve about run out and should order a calcium channel blocker or an angiotensin blocker. I m 87 and in pretty good health. My blood pressure has been creeping up of late (144/90 on average). I m presently heavier than I should be (183 instead of my more normal 170) (I m medium frame Caucasion 5 9 tall). I have substantial left over supplies of both losartan and diovan. What s your recommendation? Did I give you enough information? Jack Wanamaker
Hello Diovan ( valsartan ) and losartan both are angiotension receptor blocker while amlodipine you are on is calcium channel blocker . It's not wise to change medication just because it's going to get over . I would suggest that you continue 2.5 mg amlodipine and if the blood pressure readings are still higher than 140 / 90 mg , Than adding a small dose of either losartan or valsartan would be an ideal .
