Is Calvepen And Fluclon Causing Nausea, Diarrhea And Headache?

Hi i have been given calvepen 666mg and fluclon 500mg capsules to treat a foot infection, caused by an infected tatoo. i have been taking these almost 2 weeks now in total. the first week was half the dose but as the infection wasnt gone i was given double the dose. i have been having bad nausea, diarreha, have a headache and feel a bit hot/have temperature (mostly around my head/neck). are all or some of these normal side effects or should i be worried that this is the infection.

Hi,

You are suffering from drug induced gastritis. You are on double antibiotic therapy. Calvepen contains Phenoxymethy penicilin which is used against bacterial infections. Flucon is another antibiotic contains flucloxacillin which is also used against baceterial infections. Major side effects of the drugs are nausea, vomitting, diarrhoea, stomach upset, stomach pain, etc.

These symptoms are mainly due to erosion of the gastric protective mucous layer and epithelium leading to inflammation of the stomach. Over the counter drugs such as proton pump inhibitors such as pantoprazole, esomeprazole, rabeprazole, etc can helps to block the acid production which in turn heals the gastric epithelium. H2 blockers are the another over the counter medication to decrease the gastric acid production. Discuss with your doctor about alternative medication for foot infection.
