Is Castor Oil Good For Constipation ?

Hi my 6 year daughter is suffereing from constipation for past month and a half. She is on Aqualac (Lacticol Monohydrate 10 ml daily) for a month but her X ray shows that she is still loaded She does not have any pain (some insignificant pain around belly button once in a while). We have changed her diet (no refined flour, lots of water, bananas, mangoes and fiber). She passes fairly hard stool everyday (no pain though) I wanted to check if Castor Oil 10 ml mixed with milk/honey is a good idea ?

Thanks for your response doc. In fact I gave her 7.5 ml of Castor mixed with tea last night and she did not pass any stool. I was told that castor oil will induce immediate stool ?
I guess I am overreacting. I will stick to your advice.

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare magic.
castor oil can cause cramping in your 6 year old daughter.
She is already on lactitol which is a good laxative.
Since she is still passing hard stools, you can either ask her doctor to adjust the dose of lactitol for better evacuation or ask him to add a stool softener.
As an other option, she can take Polyethylene glycol which both softens the stool and evacuates the bowel and is very safe too

Hi,
5 ml of Castor oil can give directely without any mixing of milk or honey is good for constipation.
An another option is, Syrub of Fig is good for childrens constipation. Common fig known as the country fig have a good laxative effect and contain many anti oxidants and fiber.
Pine apple juice also good effect for constipation. Pine apple is a tropical fruit , it contains a proteolytic enzyme bromelain, which help the digestive system and prevent constipation.
