Hello,

You might be aware that in a woman with regular cycle, day 10 to 20 of the cycle is the most fertile period of the cycle. If you happen to have unprotected sex activity in this period then you stand chance to get pregnant.

As your first episode of unprotected sex activity was on day 3 of the cycle, it was not leading to pregnancy any way.

Second episode might be during the fertile period. It would have been better to take emergency contraceptive pills within 72 hours of that sex activity.

As you might be aware that emergency contraceptive pills contain high dose of progesterone hormone, the withdrawal bleeding that occurs is quite erratic. It can be early or late and it can be scanty or heavy.

As you have already taken the emergency contraceptive pills, I will suggest you to wait for the expected date of menses. If you happen to cross your dates then please get morning's first sample of urine tested for pregnancy. In case of any doubt blood beta HCG test and USG will be of help.

Even if you are pregnant, you can opt for termination of pregnancy with abortion pills under medical supervision safely till 9 weeks of pregnancy. Please seek proper sex counseling about safe and protected sex activity. This will help to prevent unwanted pregnancy and STDs.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purushottam Neurgaonkar
