Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my tsh level is 3.1 in 2009 and was asked to take thyronorm 25mcg for 6 months.after taking medicine for about 1 year my weight increased by 5kgs,side effects like pluffed face, swollen legs and hands ,hair loss was noticed.sir please suggest me to continue thyronorm or stop the medicine.
Your latest thyroid profile values are required to decide the next coourse of action. TSH levels between 0.4 to 5 means that the drug dose is sufficient. Incase of higher values, dose must be increased and incase of lower tsh,the dose must be reduced. Thyroxine does not cause weight gain.Absence of thyroid hormone increases weight gain. Physical activity and healthy diet is also essential.Monitor thyroid levels every 1 to 2 months.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
