Is Continued, Long Periods The Side Effect Of I Pill?

hey. I am 21, I am around 10 stone and 5 2 . I was with my boyfriend and had unprotected sex while on my period, and took the morning after pill the next day. It happened again a couple of days after and took another pill. I am still on my period, and have been for around 11 days, and I am worried something is wrong. Are my symptoms indicative of any diseases at all?

Hi,

I pill contains levonorgestrel which is used only in an emergency. This emergency contraceptive stops the process of ovulation by tricking the body into thinking that the egg has been discharged. It is recommended to consume this medication within 72 hours of engaging in unprotected sex. The sooner you take the I pill, the better it will work. As a dose of hormone is taken, it disrupts the normal menstrual cycle and the woman may bleed irregularly or have delayed menses in the next cycle. Some irregular bleeding that is also known as spotting, can happen after you take the I pill.

Getting your period after taking I pill is a sign that you are not pregnant. It is also normal for your period to be heavier or lighter or earlier or later than usual after taking I pill. If you take the I pill frequently, it can make your period irregular. I pill can make your period prolonged. That is one reason why using it as a regular form of birth control isn't a good idea. Before taking this medication, you should consult your doctor first.

Take care. Hope I have answered your questions. Let me know if I can assist you further.
