Is Cough Syrup Required With Roxid To Treat Cough And Heavy Throat?
Doctor, I am having cough with heavy mucous coming out when i cough since last 2 days. it feels like there is heavy cough in the upper throat and down the mouth pipe. I am taking ROXID 150 ( Roxithromycin) twice daily since 2 days, and a course is of 4 days. there is a pain in the lungs and back while coughing. Should i take any cough syrup and will the ongoing medicine work. was a smoker a year back, but quit the smoking then except for last 2 months back when i had 2-3 . Also, Strepsils lozenges are safe to have in this condition?? kindly advise sir.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
As per your complain the symptoms of cough along with heavy mucous and pain in chest and back while coughing can be due to causes like severe upper respiratpry tract infection, bronchitis, lung infection, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease etc.. I would suggest you to consult a Pulmonologist and get evaluated and he can advise you investigations like complete blood picture, throat swab culture, chest x ray etc to rule out the exact cause of the problem so that an appropriate treatment can be advised.. As far as taking Roxithromycin is advised, it is an antibiotic and you can continue taking it but along with it you can take cough suppressants containing Dextromethorphan and Gueifenesin to relieve the cough reflex.. You should also take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Advil, anti allergics like Benadryl, mucolytics like Ambroxol.. Do warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and usea humidifier in your room.. Sip on warm water and avoid sour and chilled foods.. Suck throat lozenges and chew Vitamin C pellets..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
