I am trying to figure out if we need to change family doctors. My husband is 52 years old and had been feeling fatigued and run down and out of energy. On Nov. 8th, he went to our family doctor and he put him on cymbalta for depression and sent him on his way. On Dec. 5th, he had an ischaemic stroke. The hospital ran a ton of tests and according to the cardiologist, all the test results were good. They showed he had no blockages anywhere in his arteries and his heart was really good. His cholesterol was 165 (HDL was 35, Triglycerides was 97 and LDL was 111). I then learned that the doctor has hypertension listed as his only medical history and when he was at the doctor, his blood pressure was 150/110 and nothing was said to him about it. Our doctor had given him samples of blood pressure medicine in the past but never gave him an actual prescription or talked to him about high blood pressure and what he should do about it, how to control it, what it could do if it was not managed, nothing. We learned all that at the hospital from all the educational materials the hospital had given us about high blood pressure. After learning all this, I question why our doctor had never discussed any of the dangers of high blood pressure and why nothing was said or done on Nov 8th when it was 150/110 because that seems really high to me. However, I am a little biased and I am not a doctor which is why I am asking for other opinions. I don't want to switch doctors if it is normal practice to not be concerned about a blood pressure reading of 150/110 and at the same time, I don't want to take any more chances with my families health. Thank you for any information or advice you might be able to offer me about this situation
