Is Dark Brown Discharge With Recurring Cramps While On Birth Control Normal?
My daughter (19 y/o) did not have her period for 2 months. She decided to go back on her birth control pills after taking a home pregnancy test that was negative. She started her birth control with out waiting for her period to start. She has one week of her pills left and she has started having a dark brown discharge enough that she has had to wear a pad. Also has been having cramps intermittently for a week. Not sure if we should be concerned
Good morning. It takes some time to get used to oral contraceptives (OCs), in fact, it takes about 3 months to get normal cycles and control. Cramping and brownish spotting is commonly seen while using OCs specially during the first few boxes. In time control will ensue. There is no reason for concern. Now, Polycystric ovaries should be considered in a young woman with missed periods in the absence of a pregnancy.
